The Couple as Method. Configurations of the Pair in Performance Art (1968-1989)

Following a practice-based creative research approach this doctoral thesis sets out to investigate performance art couples as a transitory figure between the individual and the collective. The research focuses on the the dialogic and relational structure of performance art itself. It specifically exposes how the configuration of the pair in specific works (by couples such as Rimma and Valery Gerlovin, TOTART - Natalia Abalakova & Anatoly Žigalov - or Raša Tososijević & Marinela Koželj to name but a few) produces a lab situation for the study of mediality and of the discourses of performance documentation.
